Weekly Nora- 14 Months Old!

October 08, 2014

Our little Nora is already 14 months old! Her little personality is coming through in leaps and bounds in the last month and we can't get enough!

She is just so darn funny, from the way she imitates absolutely everything, to this hilarious "fake" smile she has started to all the little habits she is forming. For the record, she is still not walking, although just in the last few days she has taken a few steps here and there if highly encouraged! I know she can do it and she has almost started walking on her own several times and at the last minute, she catches herself and sits down and laughs!

She is still the happiest little girl ever and constantly smiles and interacts with us. But she is also very independent. It is not uncommon to see her scoot out of the room and find a quiet place to play with toys or books. She is very persistent in her play, she works for a long time to try and figure something like opening a container, pushing a button, turning a switch, etc.

I am back to work finally, as you know and it has been a slight adjustment for us all, but nothing too crazy! I work Mon, Tues and Wed and the rest of the time, I am home. It is an ideal schedule and I am so glad we made the choice to have this happen. With Mr. T working away, I think it would have been a lot more challenging to work more than this. Nora spends one day with each grandma which is going really well and then she has a day with her Dada. I would still rather be home with her full time, but working is good too. I do enjoy my job a lot.

We are in the middle of "transitioning" her to one nap. Why didn't someone tell me that I would come to despise the word "transition"?! For the first week of trying this new routine out, Nora did really well. She fell asleep promptly at about noon and slept until 3 for 3 days in a row! I was shocked! It was the FIRST time in her life that she had actually taken long naps at the "right" time! However, of course she switched that up on me and since then we have just alternated doing one nap a day and 2 naps a day until she gets into a routine again. On the days that she has one nap, it is consistently been about 2 hours, which doesn't seem quite enough to last the whole day. I hope she sorts it out for herself soon!

At 14 months, her favourite things are animals-- she knows "meow" for cats now and it's too funny to hear her say it. She also (still) loves all fruit, cheese, pancakes, toast, pizza and pitas. She loves books, singing and rhyming stories. Her new fave song is "The Cat Came Back" by Fred Penner. She is a walking machine when she holds our hands and wants to run everywhere! She knows the way to the park now and notices it when we walk past. She points and squeals and grunts and LOVES climbing everything! She also gives plenty of kisses and I die every time I get a big wet one for no reason. And, she now has 12 teeth! The molars just shot out up outta nowhere one day and everyday they are bigger and bigger!

I am still nursing her at bedtime. I never thought it would be this hard to cut it off. I just can't bring myself to do so! I decided that I would stop when she started walking, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Although she has grown up a lot, she is still a baby. Our little baby Nora June. She will always be my baby!

  1. I just wanted to let you know there's no reason you should feel like you HAVE to stop nursing. Absolutely no judgment here for what ever decision you make. World health reccomends nursing to 2 years and beyond. Again I repeat no guilt either way. I just want to let you know if you want to keep nursing her you absolutely can and no worries if people think she's too old. :)
